Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is observed annually on September 17 in the United States to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 and to recognize all who have become citizens through coming of age or naturalization. Educational institutions that receive federal funds are required to hold an educational program on the U.S. Constitution on this day. Additionally, AILA, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, hosts a nationwide Citizenship Day event each year to assist eligible legal permanent residents in preparing and applying for U.S. naturalization.
