George Washington (born February 22 [February 11, Old Style], 1732, Westmoreland county, Virginia [U.S.]—died December 14, 1799, Mount Vernon, Virginia, U.S.) American general and commander in chief of the colonial armies in the American Revolution (1775–83) and subsequently first president of the United States (1789–97).

President’s Day was established as a federal holiday in 1885 to celebrate George Washington’s birthday on 22nd February. Although it was originally a day to celebrate George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, it is now meant to honor all US Presidents, past and present.

In 2024 the powers that be decided to mess things up a bit more and have Washington’s birthday on the 3rd Monday of February and combine it with President’s Day.
