What are you selling and providing in service?

I recently visited with a property manager friend that asked me to help him understand what a service company was offering him in a possible service agreement.
In looking at the proposal left by the service company, all they provided for an explanation as to what was being provided, was the following:
"Filter changes four times per year and maintenance."
And then they gave the price and a whole lot of terms and conditions.
I ask you this question, would you buy maintenance for your car if the person or company providing you the proposal said, "we will change your air filters and perform maintenance for $1,000.00 dollars?" I hope not! Don’t you want to know what you are getting for your money?

Philosophically, I suppose I have always been opposed to licensing. Nobody has been able to prove to me that we as an industry, a country, or a society are better off because the state monitors and controls many of our activities. I’ve heard the arguments, but something just doesn’t sound right when somebody says they have the right to control what I do. And it has been proven many times that capitalism is an engine that runs best when it runs lean.

ACCA members Tim Cropp of Cropp-Metcalfe A/C & Heating , Fairfax, VA, Richard Dean of Environmental Systems Associates, Columbia, MD and Warren Lupson of Primary Multicraft, Gaithersburg, MD participated in the Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute (ARI) Instructor Workshop and panel discussion for HVACR instructors from all across the country. The workshop was held in Arlington, Virginia.
ARI sponsors the Instructor Workshop annually and invites instructors from HVACR programs at the high school and post high school level. ACCA was invited to develop and present a panel discussion on "What Technicians Need to Know on the Job From a Contractor’s Perspective."
